American Primitive is a tight, foot stompin' quartet, composed of the hottest young pickers in California. Whether it is straight bluegrass, jazz, or their original tunes, American Primitive is a unique group of young musicians who will leave you wanting more.
Zack Smith (Bass), a graduate of the Ethnomusicology program at UCLA, adds new world rhythm to the genre and a certain Mingus-esque power.
Paul Fuller (Banjo/Resonator Guitar), a graduate of the music school at CalArts, and former Topanga Banjo Contest winner, brings original compositions and fresh playing on his instrument of choice.
Corey Epstein (Guitar/Mandolin) was brought up playing bluegrass in Colorado. Since his move to the coast he has been amazing crowds with his energetic solos and rich sound.
Chris Stewart (Violin), the newest member of the group and a Kentucky native is currently attending CalArts. Chris' chops are unbelievable, with crisp and clear runs that take the band to a new level.
